HS037 - an Unusual Day

Hastings Diary Day 12 May 2016 TEMPLATE
Sharing our stories and making connections…
Write whatever comes to mind, hour by hour, a reflection or something that stands out. It’s up to you. Photos and drawings welcome.

Accosting Strangers
How did it come to this
Sunlit street and me,
Shy, suspicious, wary,
Striding up to strangers
Asking questions, refusing
To be passed by?

Mass Observation, those nosey
Class anthropologists,
Investigating the habits
Of a strange sub-species

Inspire us, the modern diarists,
Who with usual English irony,
Choose to celebrate the success
Of a cultural invasion.

Yet few strangers are surly,
Several listen and some agree,
To be diarists for the day,
Involve their families.
Record a piece of Hastings life
For the next anniversary.

And for me; an achievement,
My personal record for
Talking with strangers in a day.
