HS048 Hastings and vaping

Text Box: HS048

There is a saying amongst some vegetable gardeners, "The 12th of May is runner bean day". For the purpose of this diary entry the 12th of May is "Let's talk (a little) about vaping day".

You may have noticed people using electronic cigs, aka vaping. They're not really cigarettes, so vaping is a far more suitable description. Tobacco is lit and combusted, vaping is the heating of e-liquid, no combustion involved. No horrible carbon monoxide, no horrible tar, literally 100's, if not 1000's of horrid chemicals and ingredients in tobacco smoke are not found in the vapour inhaled and expelled by the vaper.

Anyway, there are a few vape shops around Hastings and St Leonards. I took myself off to one in the town centre this morning. Always lots to chat about with the proprietor and his able assistant. Always plenty of customers as well, people in their 20's right up to people in their 80's (and beyond), everyone keen to quit the fags and stay quit.

Vape culture abounds, there are hobbyist vapers, DIY juice makers, vapefest's, cloud comps, flavour freaks, advocates (check out the EU Article 20 of the Tobacco products Directive). Smoking was easier and yes, for some it might well have been cheaper. Did you really enjoy the taste of your fag though, perhaps stinking like an ashtray was you daily perfume?

There's been a revolution and it's continuing right here, right now, in Hastings and St Leonards. Folks quitting and harm reducing without the need for nurses, doctors, NRT patches, nicotine chewing gum, sprays or the awful drug Champix.

Smoking is dead, vaping is the future and the future is now!
